The STYLE Lab Vol.1:How to Dress for Your Body Shape Real-Life Styling Experiments with Miranda & Kendra

Welcome to The STYLE Lab, where we test fashion theories in real life—and no, we’re not just talking trends. We’re out here running styling experiments with real people, real bodies, and real challenges!

For Vol.1, we put two style-savvy girls—Miranda & Kendra—under the microscope (the fashionable kind) to answer one big question:

How do you actually dress for your body shape—without falling into the same boring traps?
The result? Total glow-up moments.

Here’s what went down—and the two big styling challenges we tackled:

How can H-shaped bodies break free from that straight-up-and-down silhouette?
How can hourglass figures make the most of their waistline without going overboard?

If you’ve ever stood in front of your closet thinking “Why doesn’t this look right on me?”—this post is your new cheat sheet.

We’ve also broken down styling tips for six of the most common body shapes, so you can dress smarter and feel way more confident, every single day.

  1. Rectangular Shape

   Styling Test Subject: Miranda
With shoulders and hips that are roughly the same width and a less-defined waist, the rectangular shape often lacks curves.

  What Worked:

  ✅ Cropped tops + high-rise bottoms

✅ Structured pieces like tailored blazers or cinched shirts
✅ Belts and layered necklaces shift the visual focus
✅ Skirts with flare: A-line or circle cuts create the curves

Live Styling Experiment:
Miranda wore a racerback tank top with high-waisted tailored shorts. The added waistline broke up the silhouette and gave her shape a crisp, modern update.

2. Hourglass Shape

Styling Test Subject: Kendra

An hourglass figure features balanced hips and shoulders, and a clearly defined waist. Kendra is a textbook example —but even hourglass girls can miss their best features.

  What Worked:
✅ Emphasize the waist: wrap dresses, pencil skirts
✅ Go for stretch fabrics that hug, not squeeze
✅ V-necks / soft scoop necklines to flatter curves
✅ Cropped coat to maintain proportions

Live Styling Experiment:
Kendra wore a sleeveless round-neck crochet lace top with a high-low hem midi skirt. We made a small but powerful tweak—lifting the top’s hem slightly to reveal her waist. The difference? Her natural proportions came alive, looking effortlessly polished and subtly sexy.

3. Triangle Shape

Traits: Narrow shoulders, wider hips
Try This:
Add volume up top (ruffles, statement sleeves, bold colors)
A-line or wide-leg bottoms balance the shape
Cropped tops lift the eye line

4. Inverted Triangle

Traits: Broad shoulders, narrow lower body
Try This:

V-necks and off-shoulder styles to soften the upper body
Add visual weight to the lower half with pleats or flares
Keep colors lighter on the bottom, darker on top

6. Oval Shape

Traits: Overall rounder frame, fuller bust or midsection
Try This:

Light, flowy fabrics to reduce visual bulk
Use vertical cuts—V-necks, long cardigans—for a streamlined effect
Stick with monochromes or soft tones to unify the look

✅ Final Lab Notes:
